Officially, it is ‘World Folk’, whatever that means. Folk music is hard enough to explain without adding World to it too! I think of ‘World’ music as a fusion of music from all different parts of the planet, often combined in unusual but intriguing ways. In the introduction to my show I say ‘this is Folk music for people who didn’t even know they liked Folk music. So it’s mostly not 60’s style acoustic guitar flower power or songs of the revolution. But then again….occasionally it is! I do like unusual lyrics that express feelings and experiences that we all have. Folk music is often perceived as being really cliche, and indeed it often is. I try to avoid that. @pbsfm
